b'Mariah Becker Volunteer Leadership AwardProvides a Legacy for Decades to ComeMariah Becker was an Uncommon Student Award recipient during the early years of the program in 2000. She went on to the University of Iowa, majoring in chemistry and biology with the hopes of becoming a physician when she lost her battle with cancer in November of 2002.In 2004, the Uncommon Student Alumni Association created the Mariah Becker Volunteer Leadership Award to commemorate her spirit and promote the ideals that guided her life. The award carries a $500 stipend to help fund the continuation of one uncommon students project each year. Mariahs family have been long-time supporters of the Uncommon Student Award program and frequently attend the presentation day programs to be inspired by the new projects each class has developed. In 2022, the Becker family cultivated an idea to create an endowment to fund the award for the foreseeable future. Working with the Hoover Presidential Foundation, a goal of $10,000 was set. By the end of the campaign, over $12,000 was raised from family, friends and former students, ensuring the Mariah Becker Volunteer Leadership Award will continue for decades to come!$12,000+RAISED FOR THIS ENDOWMENT'
