PAID SUMMER COMMUNICATIONS INTERNSHIP

Job Description: The Hoover Presidential Foundation is seeking a summer intern to assist with story development and writing, media relations, event planning and other duties as assigned. Interns will be exposed to multiple facets of strategic communications. The position is full time, 40 hours min. per week from May 14 through August 10. Actual dates are flexible with your
school release dates. Some weekend and evening hours will be needed. Payment will be in the form of a stipend, paid on the last day of each month in appropriate installments. There is a possibility that reduced-price housing may be available on the Hoover campus, if needed.

Expected duties:
• Research and write a minimum of three feature-length stories for American Road membership publication
• Assist with promotion of current and future exhibits at the Hoover Presidential Library-Museum through earned media efforts and social media management
• Assist with planning and promotion of Hoover’s Hometown Days annual event, including assistance with media buying, press relations, and event management including the annual Hoover-Ball National Championships and Youth Hoover-Ball events. Work with volunteers, sponsors, vendors and others to recruit teams, gain publicity and operate a successful event
• Assist with the planning and promotion of occaisional parades we will participate in
• Basic photography skills for web and newsprint, possible video shoots
• Produce video testimonials acting as the on-scene reporter
• Must be able to meet business/professional dress code; no visible tattoos or piercings (excluding common ear piercing)
• Must be able to play and demonstrate Hoover-Ball skills

What you’ll gain:
• The successful candidate will have created multiple writing samples for their portfolio including long-form feature articles, copy from marketing materials and press releases
• Develop, promote and manage a sporting event
• Experience working on public and civic committees
• Experience working with local, state and national media
• Experience supporting a membership-based non-profit organization
• Experience developing and working a strategic communications plan
• A variety of still photography images and possibly video
